Why I Both Love and Hate OCC Lip Tars: posted at 12:29 PM
OCC Lip Tars are one of the most praised lip products in the makeup world, for good reason too. They're 100% vegan (I'm not vegan, but I do know that vegan products are very hard to find.), long lasting, come in loads of "normal" looking and "unusual" looking colours, and best of all, you only need a very tiny bit. Even with a $18 price tag, one tube will last you quite some time even if you were to use it every single day.
I currently own four regular lip tars and one stained gloss lip tar. Most of them are pretty similar in shade, minus the bright orange and the very pale pink. I would love to try the more dark shades and even some of the greens, blues, gold, etc. in the line.
The greatest thing about lip tars is the longevity. If you put them on in the morning or early afternoon, the product should still be on your lips by the late afternoon/early evening (unless you're wearing the stained gloss on its own). I've eaten and had a drink of coffee or two... or five while wearing lip tars and I would still get that nice colour on my lips when I was finished.
Unfortunately, the formula could still use some work. Lip Tars are known to be one of the most drying products on the market. No matter how much I exfoliate and how much lip balm I apply beforehand, the lip tar still dries down to such a matte finish, a drying finish, and it will start to flake and it feels uncomfortable. I've even dealt with product gathering on the edge of my lips, with or without lip liner on. How bad that is really depends on the shade. I haven't had much issue with Nylon, the bold hot pink, or Queen, the really dark pink. But with Divine (this is the worst), Beta, and Hoochie (before I got rid of it), it was very noticeable.
Half of me thinks I should just sell the lip tars in a blog sale because I hate the cons so much, but the other half of me still loves them and I don't want to get rid of them. I still find them to be some of the best lip products around and I still want to buy more colours. I haven't tried Black Dahlia or NSFW. So many colours I haven't tried yet!
I've done multiple reviews of lip tars, but those reviews were really just about one shade. I wanted to give my thoughts on lip tars as a whole since the thought had been on my mind recently. I'd love to know how you feel about lip tars as a whole.
